D.K. Jayaraman

D.K.Jayaraman, the renowned brother of D. K. Pattammal, was a Carnatic music singer.
After learning music from his sister, he furthered his musical skills under many known masters in the field, including Muthiah Bhagavathar and Papanasam Sivan. Like his sister, Jayaraman was known for his moving krithi renditions, especially of Muthuswami Dikshitars compositions. Jayaraman also sang Tamil songs such as those of Papanasam Sivan.

Carnatic Music

Indian Carnatic music is a very old and rich way of classical singing. The origin of carnatic music dates back to the BCs. It is a very popular style of singing in India. Carnatic music is a very divine style of singing. It is composed only praising the hindu gods and goddesses.

The main emphasis in carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when playing on instruments, they are meant to be performed in a singing style (known as gAyaki).

Carnatic music hasthree main parts------RAga (tune), TAlam (beat) and shruthi (Pitch).

The ragaa decides the nature of song (expression--an angry tune, melancholy, or pride).

Some ragaas can cure certain diseases (acute). There are ragas which can purify a stressfull mind, restless mind, sad or angry mind. Ragaas can change your mood.

Next is the tAla. It is just a beat done just by a clap.

Then the shruthi which is the pitch of the song.

Among all these three nothing can be neglected to create an Indian Classical Music.

There are seven notes used in the carnatic music they are --- sa, ri, ga, ma, pa, da, ni
the formation of these notes is still only predictions. The most agreed prediction is that it came from the gods.
